Letter writer Roy Verley last week defended the mainstream media, especially his close friend Lester Holt, “dedicated to his craft as they come.”

When receiving his lifetime achievement award in journalism in March 2021, NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt warned that the news media is providing “an open platform for misinformation. That the sun sets in the west is a fact. Any contrary view does not deserve our time or attention. Holding those in power accountable is at the core of our function and responsibility. We need to hear our leaders’ views, their policies, and reasoning, but we have to stand ready to push back and call out falsehoods.”

How ironic and hypocritical. NBC News infamously pushed the Democratic hoax about Russian collusion and Donald Trump. The gated media hushed up the inefficacy of masks and vaccines as well as the likely source of the pandemic. Holt and his ilk promoted the lies of former intelligence officials like Carmel’s own former CIA boss Leon Panetta. Consequently, we are no longer energy independent, we left billions of dollars of military equipment with the Taliban, and inflation is reminiscent of the Carter years.

Yeah, like Reagan said, “trust but verify.”
