The real problem

Kamala Harris must have visited a different Guatemala than I. After a two-hour trip to Guatemala with leaders, she concluded that food security was the main push factor driving immigrants to make the long journey to the US for illegal entry. On my last Guatemalan trip, I visited farms and villages to inspect crops and other biota. What I learned corresponds with official UN data: that Guatemalan crop production is robust and has grown steadily over the last five years. I also visited many other countries in Central America learning the same. Guatemalan leaders told Kamala that the root causes of the migrant surge are the poor border policies of the Biden administration. The inane policies are bad enough, but please, Kamala, don’t lie to us about the root causes of massive migration.
