“Drag Queens story hour no1”

Monterey Herald—July 3, 2026

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding a private event that was hosted at the city of Monterey Public Library on  June 28 — a Drag Queen event marketed toward children — which was held on a day the library is otherwise closed to the public and the event was structured as a private gathering requiring advance registration and approval for admission. The library is closed on Sundays and was locked during the event.

As a taxpayer and member of this community, I find several aspects of this event deeply troubling and deserving of formal accountability because it raises serious questions about the responsible stewardship of public trust and resources by the Board of Trustees who manage the library and especially by Library Director Brian Edwards.
