“Fair elections”
Carmel Pine Cone, Oct. 24, 2025
I had to choke on my coffee Friday morning after reading Bob Belvin’s letter regarding the Democrats’ efforts to secure free and fair elections. While some of his facts may be correct, he leaves out the facts that even the argument. Since leaving office in 2016, Eric Holder and the Democrats’ attorney, Marc Elias, have dedicated their time to changing the voting laws in as many states as possible. We now have mail-in voting for everybody, vote harvesting by paid workers, extended voting days, and extended vote counting for weeks, in some cases. None of these things make up a “fair and free” election. California has 52 members of the House of Representatives. Forty are Democrats (77%), only 12 are Republicans (23%). Yet, 40 percent of the voters in our state are Republicans. And now Gov. Gavin Newsom is spending over $230 million to hold a special election to make this total even worse. We have in our state constitution a citizens’ commission to draw congressional districts. Political parties are not a part of it. Let us keep it that way. Vote NO on Proposition 50.
