“Let the owner decide”

Carmel Pine Cone, February 14, 2025

I’m disappointed that members of Carmel’s planning commission have to think long and hard before allowing people to have metal roofs make destruction by fire less likely. For reasonable people, aesthetics should come second to safety from fire. The people who

own their houses, not the city government, should be able to decide what kinds of roofs they want. A century ago, almost everyone understood the importance of property rights. Too bad that so many people in Carmel’s city government do not.
