Judge Duncan

“Judge Duncan,” Monterey Herald – March 30, 2023

Congratulations to the Monterey Herald for printing George Will’s article regarding Judge Stuart Kyle Duncan’s attempt to speak at Stanford University in early March. Judge Duncan, a judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals 5th Circuit was invited by Stanford’s Federalist Society to speak on a rather dry subject regarding constitutional law. Most readers already know what happened after that.  Speaking as a Conservative (non-Trump) Republican, I happen to agree wholeheartedly with the Court of Appeal Judge, Stuart Kyle Duncan’s position on such issues as abortion, same-sex marriage, and immigration. It is a shame that the judge was shouted down and harassed by a mob of unruly first-year law students waving protest signs and calling him “scum” and other unsavory epithets, with DEI  Associate Dean Tirien Steinbach egging them on. Later another Stanford law professor, Jenny Martinez, apologized to the judge for this wildly disruptive scene, and what happened after that? The next Monday 50 or so students wearing black masks formed a “wall of shame” as Martinez attempted to leave her classroom. What if, I collected a cabal of like-minded friends and we drove up to Stanford University? We would form a “wall of shame” as DEI Dean Steinbach attempted to leave her office. We would wave placards in her face and yell sexually obscene words as she attempted to walk through the gauntlet. Even though we would quickly be arrested for trespassing and other crimes, would “the juice be worth the squeeze?” By the way, I just read that the DEI Associate Dean has been “put on leave” at Stanford University.  Gee, I wonder why.
