Not all investigations are equal

“Not all investigations are equal”, Carmel Pine Cone – May 28, 2021

On reading your story on Rep. Jimmy Panetta’s vote for a commission to investigate the Jan. 6 the Capitol attack, our congressman’s view seems one-sided.

Like 99 percent of Americans, my heart sank when I heard about the uncivil protest at Capitol Hill. Up to that point, the rioting throughout 2020 was one-sided and terribly destructive. The last thing Americans want is for the battle to be escalated. Sadly, Jimmy Panetta seems to be among those who relish the destruction and anger.

The damage done to the Capitol was meaningful. Yes, tens of thousands of dollars in repairs were required. Yes, some people were hurt. Sadly, one person, Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt, was shot by police in what appears a negligent discharge. Her actions were wrong but did not warrant deadly force.

Contrast this with the billions of dollars of damage done in over 50 cities nation-wide by the Black Lives Matter movement. Dozens were shot dead by rioters. Many were beaten mercilessly by riotous crowds. Whole communities are destroyed even to this day, one year later.

Panetta wants conservatives investigated, yet on the BLM riots, he is silent.
