Regarding Sunday’s editorial piece, “Emergency: Covid’s Not Done With Us,” the Santa Cruz Sentinel attempts to convince us that the scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) were “studying” the virus for “research and medical purposes.” How can they know this for certain? Even the U.S. State Department fact sheet on the WIV published in January 2021 stated, “Despite the WIV presenting itself as a civilian institution, the United States has determined that the WIV has collaborated on publications and secret projects with China’s military… on behalf of the Chinese military since at least 2017.” That coupled with the fact that the CCP has denied anyone from the international community entry into the lab to this day makes the “studying” theory less plausible to say the least.
