No mention of gays – Letters Of Liberty

**“No mention of gays,” Monterey Herald – May 11, 2022**

I wish Washington Post writers like E.J. Dionne, Jr. would simply do diligent research. In his May 3 column, he erroneously implies that Governor Ron DeSantis signed an anti-gay bill, which caused the Disney Corporation and the state of Florida to retaliate. Actually, there is no mention of gays in the “Protect Parental Rights in Education” law (HB 1557). Look online: https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/1557/BillText/er/PDF

DeSantis’ law is about parental rights, arguing that only parents should “make decisions regarding the upbringing and control of their children.” After all, the state owns neither children nor parents! This law also instructs school personnel not to get involved in “sexual orientation or gender identity” for children in Kindergarten through grade 3.

This is nothing radical. What is extreme are those who continue to fan the flames of misinformation for political ends.
