Time to be truthful and bring people together
“Time to be truthful and bring people together”, Monterey Herald – Nov. 24, 2021
Now that Kyle Rittenhouse has been acquitted on all charges, the question to ask is why this tragedy become “racialized.” No shred of evidence of racism was uncovered during the trial. A white person shot three white people. The only possible racism came from Joseph Rosenbaum, a convicted child rapist who chased and grabbed for Kyle’s rifle. He, for some reason, screamed out the N-word a number of times during the rioting, burning and looting in Kenosha.
More disturbing was President Biden’s rush to call Kyle a “white supremacist.” Such distortions of fact have gone worldwide. Glenn Greenwald, an American journalist living in Brazil, remarked that three major media outlets in Brazil explicitly stated that the people Kyle shot were Black.
The corporate media have weaponized race. They are stoking hate and racial animosity, while ignoring the mob violence that led to billions of dollars of damage, dozens of deaths, thousands of injured police officers, and whole city blocks burned to the ground during the 500-plus riots of summer 2020.
It is time to be truthful and bring people together, not divide them with big falsehoods.
