America will reject socialism, again

America will reject socialism, again – Monterey Herald, June 14, 2019

The Herald’s commentary, “Boos for a slam on socialism by our state Dems,” is correct in its position that most Americans view socialism as abhorrent and tyrannical. Our American anti-socialist attitude intensified after we were forced to spill blood and resources to fight the armies of socialism in Europe during World War II.

Joseph Goebbels famously framed World War II in 1939 as a battle between capitalism and socialism. Not long after National Socialist Germany invaded Poland, Goebbels declared that “England is a capitalist democracy. Germany is a socialist people’s state” and “English capitalists want to destroy Hitlerism.”

Hitler made a similar statement in 1941. After gloating over his past military victories against the West, he proclaimed that “It is already war history how the German armies defeated the legions of capitalism and plutocracy.”

Indeed, if the Democrats want to win big in the next political bout, they should steer clear of embracing any variant of socialism. Socialism has always been the enemy of a free American republic.
